A bomb was dismantled Monday evening in a garage in Fayoum, resulting in no injuries. Another exploded in the vicinity of the Fayoum Governor’s residence, state-run news agency MENA reported.

There have been further reports of another explosive device planted in a car in Fayoum , destroying a car and damaging two others.

The Interior Ministry, however, did not confirm the incident.

Earlier this month, an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated by two masked men on a motorcycle near the parking area of a hotel on the shore of Fayoum’s Lake Qaroun, with no injuries reported.

Fayoum is among various governorates that have witnessed frequent explosions and militancy targeting security personnel and facilities.

On 27 February, Fayoum endured five separate attacks on security personnel, leaving one conscript killed and two others injured.

The frequency of explosions has been on the rise since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, whereby North Sinai and Greater Cairo have the highest share of explosions.
