Egyptian success on the squash court has added to the country’s growing trophy cabinet as two young players won international tournaments.

In Norway, an all-Egyptian final brought the Grays Norwegian Open to a climax when Omar Abdel Aziz upset event favourite Omar Abdel Meguid to win the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 event.

It was the third Tour meeting between the pair – but the first for almost three years, since competition favourite and World No.30, 26-year-old Meguid overtook his older compatriot in the rankings.

But 30-year-old Aziz, now ranked 14 places lower, had a 2/0 career head-to-head record to maintain – and did so in commanding style, winning in 45 minutes 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8.

The triumph marks Aziz’s sixth PSA World Tour title – but his first since October 2012.

Aziz (pictured above, right, with runner-up Meguid) told the packed crowd that he was very pleased with his performance.

Other on-court success occurred when Marwan Elshorbagy claimed his first tournament title of 2014, beating Canada’s Shawn Delierre in the VII Torneo Internacional Sporta in Guatemala.

The World No.20, winning his fourth career title to date, saw off World No.74 Delierre 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 to end his tournament in empathic fashion cruising to victory. Elshorbagy dropped just one game throughout the tournament.
