A technical committee has been formed by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry Mounir Fakhry Abdel-Nour to insure the standardisation and maintenance of high quality industrial products, according to a ministerial statement issued on 4 January.

The committee will be headed by the chairman of the central administration of quality control at the Egyptian Organisation for Standardisation & Quality (EOS).

EOS’s general manager of the quality control department and the general manager of the standards and specifications department are members of the committee.

The duties of the committee will be to collect and present a database of the industrial sector and to propose solutions to the problems that it faces. The committee will submit summaries to all industry-related parties and hold seminars and forums.

The minister stated that the aim is to upgrade the safety of the industrial system and the quality of industrial products. He added that the committee will seek to develop a system of oversight of the domestic market to ensure the safety of products.

Abdel-Nour added that the committee will protect the market from the spread of goods with unknown origins, as well as to guarantee that all imported goods are in accordance with Egyptian quality standards.

Hassan Abdel-Maguid, the president of EOS, stated that the committee will work on achieving a line of communication for those in the industrial field to help overcome the bottlenecks and delays that face the sector.
