CAIRO: Zamalek youngster Hossam Arafat is convinced that he came close to dying when he passed out upon falling on his back in Wednesday s morning training session.

Arafat, 20, hit the back of his head to lose consciousness after attempting an overhead kick, and was hospitalized shortly after.

His condition is understood to be stable now; nonetheless, Arafat believes he was really lucky to survive a fatal fall .

First of all, I would like to thank Zamalek s medical staff for saving my life. I could have died today, the up-and-coming forward told FilGoal.com.

I suffered a concussion and I could have swallowed my tongue, but thank God Dr Mostafa Al-Monayeri was there for me.

Arafat underwent MRI scans, and it turned out that he sustained a minor concussion and a nose hairline fracture.
