Egyptian MP only Arab to monitor US presidential elections

CAIRO: The International Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) Committee chose Egyptian MP Mohamed Mostafa Sherdy as a representative of the North Africa region to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to monitor the coming US presidential elections on Nov.4.

Sherdy, an MP affiliated with Al-Wafd opposition party, told Daily News Egypt that he had previously attended large-scale international conferences that were organized by the PGA, which was how the PGA knew about him.

The PGA sent an official invitation letter to Sherdy, asking him to join the committee monitoring the upcoming US presidential elections.

So far I am the only Arab from the Middle East and North Africa region to be selected by the PGA to join the monitoring committee, Sherdy said.

I will be joining about 100 other members representing around 25 to 30 countries from Europe.we will all meet in Washington DC and we are required to select one state only to monitor.

He said that he had chosen the midwestern state of Missouri.

Like other members of the monitoring committee, Sherdy will be expected to file a full report describing his observations to the Organization for Security and Cooperation after monitoring the elections, he said.

Sherdy will be flying to the US within days to prepare for thiis mission.
