CAIRO: The family of Ahmad Al-Sabahy, head of Al-Umma Party and a former presidential candidate in 2005, nominated him for the Nobel Peace prize for his distinguished work in astrology, according to his wife.
Mrs. Sabahy spoke in a phone interview to the daily talk show 90 Minutes broadcast on Al-Mehwar Egyptian satellite channel on Saturday.
The normal procedure for consideration for a Nobel Award is for the awarding institution itself to recommend nominees it deems worthy of the prize.
According to Al-Sabahy s wife, he wrote 40 books, most of them on astrology with a few on religion and politics.
Haj Al-Sabahy is the first to write about the Prophets morals and values, Al-Sabahy s wife said on the show.
The controversial head of Al-Umma is best known for his lobbying efforts advocating the return of the fez (the red tarboush) a remnant of Ottoman rule.
