Living up to the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the 2016 Copa America proved to be an exceptional season.

Chile and Argentina went head-to-head in the final match. Neither team scored a single goal despite countless opportunities, keeping their audience at the edge of their seats until the very last minute. With penalties as a last resort, Chile won with a score of 4-2.

Tensions were high during the match, as Argentina was seeking revenge for losing against Chile in the final match of the 2015 Copa America.

Argentina’s Lionel Messi missed the first penalty, upsetting the team’s fans. The player subsequently expressed his desire to retire from international football.

Messi was not the only player from his team who had resorted to such grave measures after the defeat. Gonzalo Higuaín, Sergio Agüero, and Ezequiel Lavezzi followed his lead, announcing they would retire from international football.

Throughout the tournament, Chile’s players walked away with several awards. Alexis Sánchez was labeled as the best player, Eduardo Vargas won the top scorer, and Claudio Bravo got awarded the golden gloves as the best goalkeeper.

Argentina’s goalkeeper Sergio Romero was awarded for his fair-play during the 2016 Copa America.
