An exchange of fire between police forces and an armed group near New Cairo on Monday resulted in the death of two group members and left a third with injuries.

The Ministry of Interior said a police patrol became suspicious of car carrying four men on the Ring Road near Al-Salam tunnel checkpoint. Upon an attempt to stop and inspect the car and its passengers, the suspects opened fire at the police vehicle as they attempted to escape.

The security forces shot at the car, which killed two persons in the car and injured the driver who was arrested along with the fourth man in the car.
