State of Sinai posted a series of photos of destroyed houses on Tuesday, and claimed a disabled civilian was killed during “indiscriminate shelling” by armed forces in North Sinai.
The photos feature a number of destroyed houses where, in one of them, a dead man was found under the rubble.
On 28 February, the group posted similar photos of dead animals and several damaged houses; however the veracity of the photos couldn’t be independently confirmed.
The Sinai-based militant group had earlier in March claimed to have paraded in North Sinai. Residents also confirmed that two parades in Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah took place over the past week.
The armed forces had previously stated that their operations in North Sinai target militants within the framework of “ultimately eliminating terrorism”. The Military spokesman recently announced the death of some 173 militants.
The armed forces took a range of security measures, including the creation of the buffer zone that required the relocation of residents within 5km from the Rafah border, in order to destroy all smuggling tunnels leading in and out of Sinai.
