The number of tourists visiting Egypt reached approximately 786,000 tourists during December 2014, compared to 677,700 during December 2013.

This represents a 15.3% increase, according to a statement from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Wednesday.

The rate of tourists from Eastern Europe was 39.1%, followed by tourists from Western Europe in second place at 34.0%, with Middle Eastern tourists at 14.9%.

The statement said the number of departing tourists increased, totalling 702,700 tourists during December 2014 compared to 611,800 tourists during December 2013, with a 14.8% increase.

The number of Arab tourists was 141,100 tourists during December 2014, compared to 100,800 tourists during December 2013, an increase rate of 39.9%.

“The average duration of stay of departing tourists totalled 10.2m nights during December 2014, compared to 8.4m nights in December 2013,” the statement read.

Tourist nights spent by departing tourists totalled 7.1m nights during December 2014, compared to 5.1m nights during December 2013, achieving an increase 38.9%. Eastern Europe is the largest in the number of tourist nights with a rate of 46.1%, followed by Western Europe with 32.5 %, and the Middle East with 13.6%.

The statement added that tourist nights spent by Arab tourists decreased, totalling 1.13m nights during December 2014, compared to 1.15m nights during December 2013, a 1.3% decrease.
