Egypt’s domestic market may reach 80% usage for new and renewable energy by 2025, according to Mohamed Moussa Oumran, first secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Electricity
The announcement came during the “Future and investment opportunities in new and renewable energy” summit, where Oumran added that the use of solar energy can solve the energy shortage crisis that the market is facing.
The Ministry of Energy’s first secretary said the 2014 Constitution touches on new and renewable energy and encourages private sector participation in it.
“The government has a long term plan which aims to generate 5500 MW through the use of traditional energy resources and 250 MW, through renewable energy, by 2027,” Oumran said.
Oumran added that Egypt is not currently facing any hindrances in its plan to produce renewable energy through wind and solar energy.
