Cairo Criminal Court on Tuesday found former Minister of Information Anas El Fiki not guilty of wasting public funds at Maspero, state-owned Al-Ahram reported.

The public prosecutor had accused El-Fiki of allowing Egyptian satellite channels to show Egyptian Football League matches for free in the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons, leading to EGP12m in wasted funds.

El-Fiki was initially found guilty and sentenced to seven years imprisonment last September. The verdict was overturned by the Court of Cassation in December, which asked the case to be reviewed by the Criminal Court.
