In memoriam Essam Atta
In memory of Essam Atta, the driver allegedly tortured and killed by the police, activists held a protest calling for abolishing torture in Egyptian prisons on Saturday night in downtown Cairo, on Mansour street.
A stage was set up, music was playing, protesters formed human chains and held banners denouncing torture in Egyptian prisons. The protest did not only commemorate the on year from Atta’s death, but was also used to launch the “Nation without torture” campaign; a campaign established by human rights activists, mostly from the Hesham Mubarak Law Centre, in order to fight torture in Egyptian prisons.
