CAIRO: The Egyptian FA has initially allowed Egypt coach Hassan Shehata to take charge of Nigeria during their 2010 World Cup campaign.

The FA s general assembly gave Shehata the thumb up to coach Nigeria during the World Cup should a tangible offer is made, Salah Hosni, an executive in the Egyptian football governing body, told FilGoal.com.

Several FA officials previously refused Nigeria s approach, but had a change of heart later.

Nigeria have been on the lookout for a new coach since the sacking of Shaibu Amodu.

Former Zamalek star Shehata has been nominated to be appointed as the Super Eagles boss among several other veteran tacticians.

Nigeria s shortlist also includes Russia coach Guus Hiddink, former Ghana manager Ratomir Dujkovic and Qatar boss Bruno Metsu.

It s yet to be clear whether the World Cup qualifiers made up their mind or not.

FA president Samir Zaher is assigned to contact the Nigerian FA and follow up on this issue, Hosni added.
