Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a phone call with Tunisian President Kais Saied on Tuesday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange views on escalating regional developments, stressing the need for political solutions to prevent further instability.
According to the Egyptian presidency, Al-Sisi congratulated Saied on the 69th anniversary of the proclamation of the Tunisian Republic, describing relations between the two countries as rooted in a long shared history. He also noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Tunisia.
Al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s solidarity with Tunisia following recent wildfires that affected parts of the country and affirmed Cairo’s readiness to provide any assistance required to help contain their impact.
The Egyptian president reiterated his commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing the implementation of agreements reached through the two countries’ joint cooperation mechanisms, with the aim of translating the current political momentum into tangible benefits for both nations.
For his part, Saied thanked Al-Sisi for his continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance political coordination between the two countries. He also congratulated Egypt on the 74th anniversary of the July 23 Revolution and briefed Al-Sisi on Tunisia’s efforts to contain the wildfires, protect lives and property, and mitigate their impact, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s offer of support.
The two leaders also reviewed regional and international developments, with Al-Sisi warning of the risks posed by renewed tensions in the region and the potentially serious consequences of a return to broader escalation.
Both presidents underscored the importance of prioritising political and diplomatic solutions to resolve regional crises, reduce tensions, and prevent further escalation. They also agreed to maintain close consultation and coordination on issues of mutual concern in light of the region’s evolving challenges.
