President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated on Saturday that any infringement on the sovereignty of an Arab state negatively impacts the stability of the entire region and doubles the danger of the regional situation. During a telephone call with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to follow up on the repercussions of Iranian attacks on Qatari territory, Sisi affirmed that Egypt stands by the leadership and people of Qatar. According to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy, Sisi called for the intensification of international and regional action to contain the current tension.
Sisi emphasised that dialogue, alongside political and diplomatic solutions, remains the optimal path to overcome crises. He warned that continued military escalation would only increase the suffering of people and undermine opportunities for development and peace.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s supportive stance, valuing the close brotherly relations and historical ties between the two countries.
The discussion follows a wave of Iranian missile strikes targeting cities in the Gulf in retaliation for US and Israel strikes on Iran. Qatar, which hosts a U.S. military presence, reported intercepting missiles after Tehran vowed retaliation for strikes against Iranian interests.
