Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry has held a telephone meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi, in preparation for a Quartet meeting in the coming days.

The Quartet, made up of Egypt, Jordan, France, and Germany, is a group of countries that seeks to advance peace efforts in the region during the next phase. The upcoming meeting is set to take place in coordination with the US.

Coordination is taking place between the Egyptian and Israeli Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well with the Palestinian side. It comes as part of the necessary preparation for the Quartet meeting, where Shoukry made contact with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki in this regard.

It comes in the context of the Egyptian position, which seeks to reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
