Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport and Minister of Industry and Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, conducted an inspection tour of phase one of Cairo Metro Line 4, as part of the government’s ongoing monitoring of national transport projects in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
The minister visited multiple stations along the western section of phase one, extending from the Grand Egyptian Museum to El-Fustat, including Grand Egyptian Museum, El-Ramaya, El-Ahramat, El-Marioutiya, El-Arish, El-Matbaa, El-Talabiya, Madkour, El-Mesaha, Giza, Giza Square, El-Roda, El Malek El-Saleh, and El-Fustat.
During the visit, Al-Wazir reviewed progress on civil works, noting that track installation has begun at Hadayek El-Ashgar station, while restoration works around the Grand Egyptian Museum have been completed ahead of its opening. He instructed that surface restoration work be carried out immediately after construction is completed at each station.
The minister also inspected the twin tunnels along El-Haram Street, where tunnel boring operations are underway for the first section of Phase One. Four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are in operation—two in each direction. According to the project timeline, the first TBM has reached the Grand Egyptian Museum station, the second El-Ramaya, the third El-Talabiya, and the fourth El-Matbaa.
Al-Wazir also followed up on the assembly of two TBMs designated for the second section of Phase One. The first machine is scheduled to be lowered at El-Fustat station in mid-January, with tunneling toward El-Mesaha expected to begin in mid-March. The second TBM will start excavation along the same route in mid-April.

Speaking during the visit, Al-Wazir said the scale of work reflects a major national effort executed entirely by Egyptian engineers and workers through five national contracting companies. He added that Metro Line 4 is one of the most significant mass transit projects currently under development, connecting 6th of October City and New Cairo to the Greater Cairo Metro network.
The line will serve densely populated areas including El-Haram, Faisal, El-Omrania, Giza, Nasr City, Al-Azhar University, and New Cairo, while linking historic Cairo with the Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion and support tourism.
Al-Wazir highlighted that the project aligns with the state’s strategy to expand environmentally friendly and sustainable public transport. He also directed coordination with the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, Culture, and Arts on the interior design of the Grand Egyptian Museum station to reflect the site’s historical character.
Once completed, Cairo Metro Line 4 is expected to serve approximately 1.5 million passengers per day.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the line will be implemented in four phases: phase one: Hadayek El-Ashgar to El-Fustat, 19 km, 17 stations; phase two: El-Fustat to New Cairo, 26.9 km; phase three: Hadayek El-Ashgar to El-Hosary Square in 6th of October City; and phase four: New Cairo to the New Capital Airport, providing interchange with the Light Rail Transit system
