A new 1,600-square-metre Carrefour store has opened in the “The Village” commercial and entertainment area within the Celia project in the New Administrative Capital, marking the latest collaboration between Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG) and Majid Al Futtaim.
The opening ceremony was attended by Omar Hisham Talaat, Chief Business Development Officer at TMG, and Mohamed Khafaja, Regional Director of Majid Al Futtaim Retail in Egypt, alongside senior officials from both companies.
Strategic Expansion and Partnership
Omar Hisham Talaat expressed satisfaction with the evolving partnership with Majid Al Futtaim Retail, which began in 2018 with the first Carrefour branch in Madinaty’s Open Air Mall. This was followed by an opening at Avenue Mall Al Rehab in 2019 and a second Madinaty branch at All Seasons Park in 2022. He stated:
“The opening of Carrefour represents the first step in a series of upcoming openings for a group of international restaurants and stores in ‘The Village’ area, which is the beating heart of Celia.”
He added that the area is designed to accommodate dozens of international commercial and entertainment brands, medical and administrative centres, a sports club, cinema complexes, and bowling alleys, all overlooking a central lake and an open theatre. The move reflects TMG’s commitment to providing high-quality services to meet the increasing occupancy rates in the New Administrative Capital.
Retail Network Growth
Mohamed Khafaja confirmed that this opening is a significant step in Majid Al Futtaim’s expansion strategy within the Egyptian market. With this addition, the company now operates a network of 72 Carrefour stores across 12 cities in Egypt.
“We aim through this expansion to enhance our presence in strategic locations experiencing promising urban growth, while providing an integrated shopping experience for our customers,” Khafaja said. He further noted that the company continues to create value for the Egyptian community by providing sustainable job opportunities and supporting local suppliers.
The Celia Project
Celia is described as the largest integrated services project implemented by the private sector in the New Administrative Capital. Spanning 500 acres, the development is located in the heart of the Green River. According to TMG, the project is the first residential development in the new capital to be fully “pulsating with life,” featuring comprehensive commercial, medical, sporting, and transport services.
The opening of “The Village” was celebrated on Thursday evening with a major concert by Egyptian star Ramy Sabry, which was attended by thousands of fans.
