Egypt signed two cooperation agreements with foreign defence companies on Wednesday to locally manufacture military equipment, as the country seeks to boost exports to Africa and the region.

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah witnessed the signing between two ministry-affiliated companies and the foreign firms on the third day of the EDEX 2025 defence exhibition in Cairo. The names of the foreign companies were not immediately disclosed.

Salah stated that the agreements align with the state’s directive to localise military manufacturing through partnerships with global entities. He noted that the deals aim to meet the domestic requirements of the Egyptian Armed Forces and police for “various weapons, ammunition, equipment, and advanced electronic systems.”

Beyond domestic needs, the minister highlighted the export potential of the new partnerships.

“Egypt is a promising market for attracting investments from global companies,” Salah said, adding that locally manufactured products could be exported to “countries in the region and the African continent by benefiting from the strategic location that Egypt enjoys.”

Representatives from the foreign companies praised the technological and manufacturing capabilities of Egypt’s military production sector, describing the country’s industry as witnessing “remarkable development.”

The agreements come as Egypt continues to expand its defence footprint, with EDEX 2025 showcasing the country’s ability to organise major international events.
