The first meeting of the Committee to Support the Relationship between the State and the Middle Class was chaired by Minister of Social Solidarity Nivine El-Kabbag, with the participation of representatives from various ministries, agencies, and civil society organizations.

The Minister of Social Solidarity stressed the role of the middle class in achieving economic and social development and said that maintaining societal security and economic balance depends on the effectiveness of the middle class as a strong supporter of economic and political transformation.

El-Kabbag added that the middle class is the most affected by economic fluctuations and that it consists of several diverse segments that vary according to their geographical locations, investment environments, demographic characteristics, and educational conditions.

Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for Investment, Asset Management and Resource Development and Chairman of the Committee Hassan Mostafa outlined the scope of work of the committee, which includes preparing studies, research, and policy papers on topics related to the middle class.

The committee is also responsible for conducting opinion polls and periodic research that monitor the middle class’s attitudes towards public services and national and social issues and preparing proposals and interventions to respond to the results of the opinion polls. Additionally, the committee supports all forms of community participation in development programs for the middle class, through partnership in national projects and initiatives between the government and civil society associations. Moreover, the committee coordinates efforts to increase the integration of the middle class into economic and medium-sized projects provided by all private and public institutions, by developing a plan for promotion, availability, and removing obstacles.

The committee works to support civil society organizations to restore their role as a civil incubator for all forms of diversity in Egypt, through which they reflect values of citizenship and the modern state against extremism in all its forms. Furthermore, the committee studies the implementation of media campaigns and programs to spread integrated messages of awareness among segments of the middle class.
