The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations has granted the Egyptian Federation for Development and Social Protection Policies (EFDSPP) special consultative status. This status allows the EFDSPP to participate in the work of the ECOSOC and other UN bodies, consult with member states, and submit written and oral statements to the ECOSOC.

The EFDSPP was founded in 2010 by Salah Hashem. The federation’s work programs are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and it has a long history of working in the field of social protection in Egypt. The EFDSPP has a network of 64 civil associations representing the governorates of Egypt, and it works in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Economic development of the family
  • Income development through micro-lending projects
  • Improving the standard of living of the poor
  • Infrastructure services (sanitation, clean food, drinking water)
  • Caring for families at risk
  • Providing psychological, social, and economic support to the families of released prisoners
  • Protecting and preserving the environment
  • Human rights

The granting of consultative status to the EFDSPP is a recognition of its important work in the field of social protection. The Egyptian Federation for Development and Social Protection Policies will now be able to play an even greater role in the work of the UN, and it will be able to contribute to the development of policies that benefit the people of Egypt.

In a statement, Hashem said that the EFDSPP was “delighted” to have been granted consultative status by the ECOSOC. He said that the federation “looks forward to working with members of the ECOSOC in the field of social protection and the protection of human rights.”

The decision of the ECOSOC to grant consultative status to the EFDSPP is a significant achievement for the federation. It is a recognition of the federation’s work and its commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The Egyptian Federation for Development and Social Protection Policies is now well-positioned to play an even greater role in the work of the UN, and it will be able to contribute to the development of policies that benefit the people of Egypt.
