Egypt expresses sincere solidarity, condolences to Algeria over wildfires

Egypt expressed on Tuesday its solidarity with Algeria following the recent wildfires, which resulted in dozens of casualties, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Egypt also offered sincere condolences to the government and people of Algeria and the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured and expressing its solidarity with the brotherly Algeria in this painful situation.

The Algerian Interior Ministry announced on Monday that the number of victims of forest fires in a number of states of the country has risen to 34 dead, including 10 members of the army.

The Ministry said in a statement that 97 fires broke out in forests and agricultural crops, adding that some of them spread to populated villages.

The Ministry added that the authorities have evacuated 1,500 citizens, noting that fire suppression operations are continuing in 6 states.

The Algerian Ministry of Defence announced that 10 military personnel were killed in the fires that broke out in Beni ksila, Bejaia state, eastern Algeria, and 25 others were injured.

The ministry said in a statement that the injured were evacuated directly to nearby hospitals.
