Egypt’s President receives call from Somali counterpart

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a phone call from President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency said the Somali President reviewed the latest domestic developments in Somalia and steps taken to restore security and stability in the country and to overcome the various challenges it is facing, primarily the threat of terrorism.

The Somali President confirmed commitment to enhancing consultations and coordination with Egypt on various regional issues of mutual concern. He also stressed his country’s keenness on stepping-up bilateral cooperation with Egypt across various levels. The Somali President underscored the historical relations between Egypt and Somalia at both the official and popular levels, lauding Egypt’s historical role in supporting his country and the support it has been providing in various fields.

President Al-Sisi reiterated that Egypt values its historical relations with Somalia, stressing its keenness on the interests of the Somali people within a unified, stable and strong state. President El-Sisi also affirmed commitment to supporting Somalia in addressing the various challenges it is facing, particularly the threat of extremism and terrorism. The President underlined Egypt’s readiness to continue to provide support to Somalia to build and solidify the state’s institutions and to effectuate the various aspects of bilateral cooperation, notably at the economic and trade levels and in training Somalia technical cadres.
