The Ministry of Health and Population announced on Monday the availability of 14,300 packages of milk for children with milk allergies in 25 centres affiliated with the ministry and university hospitals across the country.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population — explained that these packages are dispensed to children that are allergic to cow milk, with parents expected to head to the nearest milk supply centres with their child’s birth certificate and proof that they suffer from a dairy allergy.

For his part, Wael Abdel Razek — Head of the Healthcare and Nursing Sector — stated that a trained team has been allocated under the supervision of a genetic disease consultant to assess cases and follow up on the growth and health status of the child.

He continued that the General Administration of Disability Reduction provides 23 types of therapeutic milk for various diseases and that they are dispensed free of charge through centres for the treatment of genetic diseases.

Abdel Razek added that 2.4m packages of milk similar to mothers’ milk were supplied between 2021 and 2022 in two allocations, with the first being given in the first six months after birth and the second in the following six months.
