Egypt’s Acting Health Minister, Chinese Ambassador discuss bilateral cooperation

Egypt’s Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang on Saturday to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the health sector.

The minister praised the Chinese side for their continuous support to Egypt in the field of health, especially in transferring vaccine production technology locally to confront the coronavirus pandemic.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the strength of relations between Egypt and China, which is reflected in the strategic cooperation to confront the pandemic, stressing the importance of expanding the horizons of cooperation between the two sides in the field of vaccine production and the transfer of manufacturing technology.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, noted that the minister discussed with the Chinese ambassador the Chinese government’s plan during the coming period to send 60m doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to bolster Egypt’s vaccination campaign. 

Furthermore, the minister stressed during the meeting the importance of cooperation in the field of scientific research between Egypt and China and the continuation of transferring technology to manufacture vaccines to cover local needs.

For his part, Liqiang stressed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s ambitions to receive more vaccines and acquire the technology to manufacture more doses to cover local needs and eventually the needs of the region.
