Egypt and the European Union (EU) will co-chair the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) Coordinating Committee meeting in March 2022.

This comes within the framework of Egypt’s keenness to contribute to strengthening the efforts of the international community to combating terrorism.

Egypt, together with the EU, has been chairing the Capacity-Building Working Group for the East African Region since 2017 within the framework of the forum.

Egypt is one of the founding countries of the forum, which was established in 2011 and has 30 member states.

The forum cooperates closely with the UN bodies concerned with combating terrorism and many relevant international and regional organisations, with the aim of supporting efforts to counter terrorism and extremism and strengthen national capacities in this regard.
