Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs mourned in a statement the passing of ambassador Alaa Roshdy — Egypt’s ambassador to Rome — who passed away on Friday morning.

The statement stressed that Roshdy was an example of the gentleness of creation and enjoyed the love and respect of all.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and all members of the ministry expressed their sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and to all his colleagues and friends, calling on the Almighty to grant him mercy and forgiveness and to bless his family with patience and solace.

“The late ambassador, Alaa Roshdy, was a model of professional sincerity and good work ethic throughout his distinguished career in the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the missions of Egypt abroad,” the statement said.

For his part, Italy’s Ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni mourned Roshdy’s passing on Saturday.

“I am deeply saddened by the sudden departure of Egypt’s ambassador to Italy Alaa Roshdy,” the Italian ambassador said in a tweet, expressing his “deepest condolences to Roshdy’s family, the government, and the Egyptian people for this tragic loss.”
