Egypt spares no effort to support Lebanon: FM Shoukry

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has affirmed that Egypt spares no effort to coordinate with friendly countries to achieve what is in the interest of the Lebanese people, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

During a phone call with Lebanon’s new Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Shoukry affirmed that Egypt’s efforts to support Lebanon comes with the aim of restoring the situation in this brotherly country back to the time before the exacerbated situation by providing support in various fields that would push the economy forward and finding solutions to the energy problem.

Shoukry had also congratulated the new Lebanese Prime Minister on his success in forming the Lebanese government, wishing him every success in dealing with the great challenges facing Lebanon in light of the worsening economic situation.

Mikati called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs to pay a visit to Lebanon at the earliest opportunity in light of the strong relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples and the prospect of strengthening them in the next stage.

This invitation comes in light of the strong relations gathering the two countries and their peoples and the horizons to enhance these relations in the coming period.

Earlier this month, Egypt agreed to deliver natural gas to the Lebanese territories through Jordanian and Syrian pipelines, with a plan of action and a timetable for its implementation.

Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, affirmed  Egypt’s permanent role towards the Arab countries in all issues upon President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s directives, saying “Egypt is working to speed up coordination for delivering the Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria”  and  to ease the burdens of the Lebanese people.
