Egypt’s Ministry of Environment announced, on Sunday, that there will be a nationwide heatwave and dusty winds caused by active southerly winds.

The weather update comes on the back of the results issued by the National Network for Monitoring Ambient Air Pollutants on Saturday and the early hours of Sunday.

The southerly winds have caused the concentration of particulate pollutants in the air around Greater Cairo and some areas of the south and central Nile Delta, which are expected to vanish by the end of Sunday.

“It is also expected that the wind activity will increase as a result of the passage of an air depression starting from the early hours of Monday until Wednesday,” the Ministry of Environment said in a statement.

The ministry added that dust and sand storms are expected in open areas across Greater Cairo, the North Coast, the Delta, and northern Upper Egypt.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned that the country will, on Monday, witness hot weather in Cairo, Lower Egypt, the North Coast, and South Sinai. There is also expected to be very hot conditions in the south of the country during the day, with moderate weather conditions expected at night nationwide.

The authority expects an opportunity for light rainfall in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, and the northwest coast.
