Egypt follows up on detention of 17 Egyptian fishermen in Tunisia

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Saturday evening, that it closely followed the situation of 17 Egyptian fishermen who have been arrested in Tunisia recently, according to Ambassador Amr Abbas, Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad.

The Egyptian fishermen were caught fishing illegally southeast the Tunisian island of Kerkennah. The Tunisian Coast Guard Rapid Intervention arrested the fishermen and drove the boat to the main naval base in Sfax, to take the necessary legal measures.

Abbas affirmed that the Egyptian Embassy in Tunisia will make the necessary contacts with the concerned Tunisian authorities to ensure the safety of the fishermen and follow up on the investigation into the incident.
