Egypt puts final touches for 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship

Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, held a meeting with Hala Zayed, Minister of Health, to review the preventive plan that will be implemented during the World Men’s Handball Championship, scheduled to be held in Egypt on 13-31 January 2021.

The meeting dealt with preventive and precautionary measures related to the coronavirus, in addition to procedures for assessing risks, raising awareness, applying precautionary measures, and dealing with suspected cases of coronavirus in order to maintain the health and safety of everyone.

The Minister of Youth and Sports began the meeting by emphasizing the great interest in the tournament by the Egyptian state, especially President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. Sobhi confirmed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is working in full swing to follow up on all the details related to hosting the tournament, whether with regard to stadiums and their readiness, or accommodation and transportation hotels, as well as medical and preventive measures, in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

The Minister of Health and Population reviewed the general frameworks for the tournament’s medical insurance plan, which will be implemented through the sectors of the Ministry of Health and Population, in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the relevant ministries, and the International Handball Federation, as it includes providing medical services to all participants in the tournament from players, administrators, committees, and spectators through the deployment of medical clinics in the stadiums.

The minister indicated that all precautionary measures have been taken at all entry points, especially Cairo International Airport, through quarantine teams, while awaiting the arrival of delegations and missions, raising the degree of readiness to the utmost in all hospitals in the governorates in which the tournament will be held, as well as following up the movement of delegations inside Egypt.

The Minister of Health and Population confirmed – during a meeting – that President Al-Sisi pays great attention to the success of this global event in light of the current difficult circumstances.

The Minister also affirmed her keenness to provide all the medical needs necessary for the tournament on an urgent basis.

In the same context, Hassan Mostafa, President of the International Handball Federation, praised Egypt’s distinguished efforts to organize the tournament, noting that this is the most important tournament in the field of handball in the world, and that he is confident in Egypt’s ability to organize it optimally.
