President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has participated via video conference in the Global Vaccine Summit. The international summit was also attended by a number of other Foreign and Health Ministers from around the world.

The summit, hosted by the UK and attended by heads of governments and business leaders via Zoom, aims to raise $7.4bn (€6.60bn) in funding for upcoming vaccine programmes.

Presidency spokesman Bassam Radi said the summit looks to mobilise the necessary financial resources to provide vaccines for developing countries.

It also looks to rebuild stocks at Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance to cover the five years between 2021 and 2025, and which will contribute to maintaining worldwide access to child immunisation programmes.

During the summit, President Al-Sisi gave a speech in which he expressed his appreciation to the UK for its initiative in calling for the important summit.

He noted that the summit “comes at a vital time in light of the spread of the coronavirus, which demonstrated the world’s need for solidarity to reduce the spread of the disease and the continued search for effective vaccinations.”

President Al-Sisi also stressed the need to prevent the coronavirus pandemic from hindering the international community’s efforts to counter other infectious diseases.

He noted that Egypt is undertaking ongoing clinical trials to find a vaccine for the coronavirus. President Al-Sisi also stressed the country’s desire, since the beginning of the crisis, to provide aid and assistance to its allies.
