All bakeries and grocery shops will be excluded from the curfew over the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, according to Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi.
Bakeries will operate from 5 am until 5pm, with some continuing work until 11pm, while grocery outlets will operate from 7am to 7pm. All bakeries will operate every day over Eid Al-Fitr, with the exception of 30% of bakeries which have requested official leave.
In a statement, Moselhi confirmed there is an adequate supply of essential goods for the Eid Al-Fitr holiday. He added that there is a five month strategic reserve of essential commodities in Egypt, which has helped achieve food security and helped stabilise prices.
The Eid Al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is normally a time of great joy, and in Egypt is marked with traditional cakes and biscuits.
Moselhi said that his ministry had provided all essential commodities at grocery outlets, bakeries, and gas stations, in addition to Eid Al-Fitr supplies such as cakes and biscuits at a low price.
As wheat is essential good for Eid Al-Fitr, Moselhi added that the total supply of local wheat amounted to 2.7m tonnes, with silos to receive supplies of local wheat starting from the third day of the holiday. He also confirmed that bakery requirements for flour had been secured before the holiday.
