2.2 million citizens registered in 1st phase of health insurance system

The Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 2.2 million citizens were registered in the comprehensive health insurance system in the governorates of the first phase of the project, which includes Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, South Sinai, Luxor, and Aswan.

The system was launched in July 2019 in Port Said governorate, and registering citizens began in October .

Official spokesperson of Ministry of Health Khaled Mogahed said they upgraded 369 hospitals and health units, including 48 hospitals and 321 health units in first phase governorates. This comes in preparation for the implementation of the new health insurance system currently in place in Port Said.

Mogahed pointed out that 14,492 surgical operations were carried out since the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system in Port Said. The governorate also witnessed developing and raising the efficiency of 7 hospitals in addition to 35 health units.

Surgical operations were performed for the first time in the hospitals affiliated with the system in the governorate. These operations included corneal and cochlear implants, retinal repair, eye repair, birth defects surgeries, open heart for adults and children, pediatric catheterisation, and cervical vertebrae surgeries.

Meanwhile, the ministry announced it will also be examining 4.1 million Egyptian women within the presidential initiative “100 Million Health” to enhance women’s health, since its launch in July 2019.
