Photos and videos were widely circulated on social media outlets Tuesday morning depicting one dead person and two injured in the Rehab compound in New Cairo.

The three victims were alleged to have been the targets of an alleged shooting by a low-ranking police officer, after a dispute broke out. However, there has yet to be any official confirmation of the purported incident.

Several social media users published photos and videos that they claim document the incident. Through posts on Facebook, they claimed a low-ranking police officer shot one person and injured two others using a gun, and the officer was subject to beatings by individuals who witnessed the shooting.

“When I was on my way to attend a course, a low-ranking police officer got out from a police patrol vehicle. He suddenly pulled out a gun and started shooting, targeting one person, who was killed, and two others who were injured, after they got out of a minibus during the shooting,” Ahmed El-Zoha, an eyewitness, told Daily News Egypt on Tuesday.

Social media users claimed that the incident took place in front of Gate 13 of the Rehab compound, located on the road leading to the Fifth Settlement, according to several testimonies published through social media outlets.

The Interior Ministry’s Media Office told Daily News Egypt that an official statement on the incident will be released as soon, following the completion of preliminary investigations. The ministry did not confirm or deny the narrative circulated on social media outlets.
