Hala Sakr officially commenced her work as Managing Director of Barclays Egypt at the beginning of January, becoming the first woman to take the position, according to a statement from the bank.

According to Barclays Africa Regional Management Chief Executive Mizinga Melu, Sakr’s appointment came as a result of her extensive experience in the banking sector.

He added that Sakr is a renowned and seasoned banker, with excellent leadership qualities and a long history of achievements. In addition, he added that she is well aware of the factors of the Egyptian market’s growth, noting that her appointment is expected to allow the bank to continue to meet its strategic goals.

Sakr is a graduate of the American University in Cairo, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She has worked in the banking sector for over 30 years, holding positions in retail banking, corporate finance, and risk management in both Egypt and the wider Middle East.

According to Barclays Egypt Chairman Jeremy Wilson, the bank has great trust in Sakr’s experience in the financial services sector, and in her ability to implement the bank’s growth strategy in the Egyptian market.
