Eitesal to meet government officials next week

IT industry contributed 3% to GNP last year, says Al-Tahawy

Next week, the Egyptian Information, Telecommunications, Electronics, and Software Alliance (Eitesal) will organise a number of meetings with ministers and senior government officials, held under the slogan “Meet the Government”, in order to learn about future policies and plans of the government.

Etisal Chairman Hazem Al-Tahawy said the assembly has a time-bound action plan, through which it will host officials and ministers to shed light on problems facing Egyptian society in different sectors. The aim is to reach creative solutions that can positively impact the national economy as well as activate the domestic market through employment of IT solutions.

Al-Tahawy added that more than 200 executive managers registered to attend the first meeting, which Eitesal scheduled for 8 February, during which the Minister of Communications and IT, Yasser Al-Qadi will discuss the ministry’s future plans.

According Al-Tahawy, the telecommunications and information technology industry contributed EGP 52bn to Egypt’s gross national product (GNP) in FY 2014/2015, accounting for 3% of the GNP. The sector provides nearly one million jobs, directly and indirectly, and exports  products worth an estimated EGP 12bn to 160 countries around the world, via 200 Egyptian companies.

Eitesal was founded in 2004, through the merger of the Egyptian High Tech Association (EHITA) which was founded in 1996 with the Egyptian Software Alliance (ESA) founded in 1997. Thus, Eitesal became the oldest and most unique institution of its kind in the field of communications and information technology.
