Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb met with Italian Defence Minister Roberts Pinotti to discuss a range of topics, including the increasing incidents of terrorism, bilateral relations, and Libyan crises, according to State media

Pinotti stressed Italy’s supportive stance with Egypt in its war against terrorism.

Earlier in July, the Italian Consulate in Downtown Cairo was attacked with a bomb. “Islamic State” radical militant group reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Egyptian government then issued a decision to renovate the consulate. Pinotti said that the attack targeted Italian-Egyptian relations.

The meeting also tackled the situation in Libyan territories and Mehleb stressed Egypt’s demand that EU countries exert all their efforts to combat the flow of arms and foreign fighters to Libya, to curb the deteriorating security situation in the neighbouring country
