In response to the flood of questions the Daily News Egypt has received in the last day regarding the last question on General Abdul Fatah Al-Sisi running for president, the DNE would like to shed further light on the matter.

The question was asked because of Al-Sisi’s rising popularity on the streets. The military spokesman Colonel Ahmed Ali was quite candid, as always, in answering the question. As stated in the interview Al-Sisi has no plans for running for presidency. What Colonel Ali was explaining is that the military institute does not control who runs for the presidential election even if he was ex-military. Colonel Ali was adamant about this point; the military institute is keeping clear from the political life.

The armed forces new policy of being open to the media has given us the chance to ask any question and keeping with this sentiment, the question on Al-Sisi’s possible candidacy was asked and answered.

We call upon media outlets to be thorough in their coverage of such sensitive matters and to analyze the interview as a whole, instead of sensationalizing what the DNE has not reported.
