CAIRO: Egyptian state media say authorities have extended the detention of a US-born Israeli whom Egypt is holding on allegations of spying.

Ilan Grapel, 27, will spend 15 more days in detention for further investigation.

Grapel was arrested in Cairo on June 12.

Egypt alleges he is a Mossad agent, and pictures of him in Israeli military uniform have been widely published in Egyptian papers. Israel denies Grapel is a spy, saying he was in Cairo working for a legal aid project when he was arrested.

Grapel has been accused of sedition and inciting Egyptians to clash with the country’s interim military leadership.
