CAIRO: Italian Serie A side Genoa have expressed an interest in signing Emad Meteb next summer, the Ahly striker said on Wednesday.

Genoa are one of two clubs who are keen on signing me, Meteb said in an interview with Al-Hayat TV.

Turkish side Kayserispor (where fellow Egyptian Mohamed Shawky plays) are also interested but I m not so excited about the prospect of playing in the Turkish league.

My ambitions are bigger, I want to play in a top European league.

Meteb s only adventure abroad was in Saudi Arabia as he spent last season on loan at Ittihad Jeddah, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

He was on the verge of joining Bristol City in the summer of 2008 but the move collapsed because he took part in an African clash against arch-rivals Zamalek without the permission of the English second-division side.

Meteb, whose contract with Ahly expires at the end of the season, said he had a chance to move to the English Premier League before the closure of the January transfer window but the club opted to keep hold of him.

Fulham and Portsmouth wanted to sign me on loan until the end of the season, he said.

However, Ahly rejected their offers because they were not financially rewarding.

Ahly also bore in mind that I could leave for free at the end of the season, so any loan deal would not have benefited them.

Meteb was part of Egypt s 2008 African Cup of Nations winning squad, scoring two goals.

He missed Ahly s 2-0 Egyptian Premier League defeat to Ghazl Mahalla last Monday due to a hamstring injury.

I will miss the upcoming game against Police Union but I hope to play against Harras Hodoud on February 18.
