Egypt stay in handball semi-final hunt

CAIRO: Egypt remained in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals after defeating Spain 23-21 in the Men s Handball Junior World Championship on Thursday.

The Pharaohs, who are playing on home soil, became level on four points with Germany, Argentina and Spain in the second round of the tournament.

The group winners and runners-up will advance to the semi-final.

Egypt, who were supported by enthusiastic crowd, ended the first-half against Spain with an 8-8 draw.

The hosts wastefulness in the second period could have cost them dearly but they managed to secure a late win, scoring three times in the last two minutes to beat Spain.

I don t want to talk about the standings, we just have to focus on winning the next games, Egypt assistant coach Wael Abdel-Aati told Nile Sports after the game.

Egypt next face Brazil on Friday.
