CAIRO: Ahly chairman Hassan Hamdi has ruled out the possibility of re-signing Essam El-Hadari, in the wake of the latter’s recent pleas.

El-Hadari issued a public apology for his sudden departure from Ahly to Sion last year, stressing his desire to “return home.

However, Hamdi rejected the notion, despite admitting that the league champions are encountering problems in goal.

“The El-Hadari case is closed. He will never return to be Ahly’s goalkeeper again, Hamdi told Egyptian TV.

“He abandoned the club at a crucial time. If we allowed him to return, it will be a license for any player to leave and then come back whenever he likes.

“Yes we have problems with our goalkeepers. Amir Abdel-Hamid and Ramzi Saleh are fine goalkeepers, but they haven’t reached top level yet.

It is believed that the majority of Ahly fans are hoping to see El-Hadari back between the posts, following the unconvincing displays of Abdel-Hamid and Saleh last term.

The 37-year-old was also tipped to join Ismaili this summer as he confirmed his exit from Sion.
