CAIRO: Zamalek denied on Sunday that they gave forward Gamal Hamza the green light to join Swedish side Vasalunds IF.

Hamza, whose contract with Zamalek expires in the summer, revealed on Saturday that he penned a four-month contract with the second-division club.

We did not agree to sell Hamza because simply we know nothing about Vasalunds’ interest, Zamalek board member Abdullah George told FilGoal.com.

Vasalunds are yet to officially contact us so I don’t know how Gamal joined them without our approval.

Hamza admitted that the Cairo giants are yet to give him the go-ahead to complete the move.

I will try to convince Zamalek to accept Vasalunds proposal, the 27-year-old said.

Hamza, who came through Zamalek youth ranks, opted to join Vasalunds immediately rather than waiting three months, after which he will become a free agent.

The Swedish second-division will kick-off next month.

Despite his talent, Hamza is continuously criticized for failing to play to his potential.

His theatrical dives and off-field problems hindered his progress, pundits say.

Hamza said he would return to Zamalek if his European adventure failed, rebuffing rumors linking him with a move to the team s arch-rivals Ahly.
