CAIRO: Ahly s playmaker Mohamed Abou-Trika has apologized for making a silence gesture towards Zamalek fans after scoring the equalizer, 2-2, in Sunday s derby.

I apologize for what I did. But I have been under a huge pressure during the game. I m not an angel, he told Ahly TV channel.

The calm-tempered player rushed towards Zamalek fans with his finger to his lips in a shushing gesture. He was infuriated by the fans’ constant insults towards him.

The Whites assistant coach Tarek Yehia has slammed Abou-Trika s conduct following the game.

“Abou-Trika’s action was disrespectful. A player of his caliber shouldn’t have done that, Yehia told Nile Sports after the game.

“Abou-Treika should have run towards his own fans to celebrate his goal with them.

The Egyptian international netted his ninth goal in the Cairo derby to help already-qualified Ahly salvage a draw with Zamalek in the Champions League group stage

Elsewhere Abou-Trika has also criticized the referee for not attributing him a penalty just before the break as Mohamed Aboul-Ella seemed to have tackled him.

He also admitted that both teams have been underachieving as the players are fasting and it may be affecting their performances on the pitch.

We are still dreaming of the clubs World Cup. We want to win the African title and travel to Japan for the third time, concluded Abou-Treika
