KOMAKI: Asian silver medalists Japan whipped African Nations champions Egypt in four sets in the World League men’s volleyball tournament on Sunday.
The Japanese spikers, who lost two away games to Egypt two weeks ago, scored a 26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20 victory to level their record against the Africans at two all.
Japan improved their win-loss record to 4-4, while Egypt has a 3-5 record to go down to the bottom in the Group D four-team round robin, which also includes world silver medalists Poland and China.
A total of 16 teams are divided into four groups. The winners of each group, Brazil and a wildcard chosen by the International Volleyball Federation will reach the final round in Rio de Janeiro from July 23 to 27. -AFP
