CAIRO: Al Ahly edged 1-0 past Al Masri in the Egyptian League on Wednesday to go 10 points clear at the top of the table.

Mohamed Barakat scored the winner in the 65th minute with a low shot.

The defending champions now have 42 points, followed by Petrojet, who raised their tally to 32 points after coasting 4-0 past Tersana.

Al Masri were no match for Al Ahly, who dominated possession but failed to score on several occasions.

Barakat almost broke the deadlock before the interval, flicking smartly from inside the area, but Al Masri keeper Haitham Mohamed parried the ball with his leg.

The veteran midfielder made up for the missed chance five minutes after the hour mark, sweeping home from the edge of the area after a poor clearance from the Masri defense.

Emad Meteb remained wasteful, despite going one-on-one with Mohamed three times during the game.
