Zamalek tie Ahly Jeddah to maintain group summit

CAIRO: Zamalek held Ahly Jeddah to a 1-1 away draw on Tuesday to advance to the Arab Champions League semi-finals as Group A leaders.

The Cairo giants stunned the home crowd in the 16th minute when Amr Zaki laid off the ball to the onrushing Alaa Abdul-Ghani, who fired a powerful right-footed low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

Brazilian striker Antonio Caio leveled the score in the 71st minute when he cut ahead of Yamen ben Zekri inside the area to receive Malek Moeaz s through pass and slot into the back of the net.

Zamalek finished the ACL quarter-finals on top of the group with 11 points, one ahead of second-placed Ahly who booked the other semi-final ticket.
