Mexico is not satisfied with Egypt’s efforts in the investigation into last September’s incident when eight Mexican tourists were killed, the Mexican foreign ministry said Thursday.
The statement, which was sent to the Egyptian Embassy in Mexico, accused Egypt of failure in both investigating the incident and providing compensation to the families of the dead tourists.
Although some reports argued that the Federation of Egyptian Tourism Agencies has paid three of the Mexican tourists’ families $140,000 each in compensation, Mexico said that they are not aware of any compensation.
Last September, Egyptian security forces announced the killing of 12 members of a tour group in the Western Desert after mistaking them for terrorists. Eight of them were Mexican tourists.
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism has officially accused a company called Windows of Egypt of breaching laws and regulations in the Bahariya Oasis incident.
